What is the PTFA?
All parents and staff are automatically members of Waterhouses CE Academy Parent, Teacher & Friends Association. We have two aims: to enhance the children’s educational experience, and to provide lots of extracurricular fun to make their schooldays memorable.
What does the PTFA do?
We run fundraisers throughout the year, the biggest of which are our Christmas Fayre and Easter Chocolate Bingo. It’s not just about raising money, though: events like our popular school discos are all about having a good time and making memories with friends. That goes for the adults, too!
Where does the money go?
PTFA funds are spent on experiences, equipment and facilities for the children. We subsidise school trips to make them affordable for every family; support the school’s provision in areas such as sport and the arts; and fund extras the school budget doesn’t stretch to. For example, the PTFA funded the school’s ICT suite and raised £5000 towards the trim trail in the playground.
Sign me up! How do I get involved?
By joining the committee or volunteering as a parent helper.
The committee holds informal meetings roughly twice a term in school, at a convenient time for everyone, to discuss ideas and plan events. They last about an hour and minutes are always available to catch up on. There’s absolutely no pressure to attend every meeting. We’re all busy people who give our time when we can – everyone understands that!
Our parent helpers volunteer to set up events, run stalls, sell tickets, and so on. You wouldn’t believe the difference an extra pair of hands makes to what we can achieve, especially at our bigger events. Could you spare an hour or two every now and then? If so, we’d love to have you on the team.
