Religious Education
Our academy strives to ensure the best possible learning journey for all in our care. We encourage the development of positive attitudes, skills and knowledge underpinned by our Christian values, allowing all to flourish; “Let your Light Shine” Matthew 5 v 16. This is the underpinning biblical theology for the teaching and learning of Religious Education across all the school.
We use the NATRE framework to enable children to learn about Christian values and beliefs, as well as those of other cultures and religions.

In Monday’s (05/02/2024) Collective Worship, Nathan taught us the Bible story where Jesus healed the lepers. We had some brilliant actors who helped him! He also taught us a new song called Jesus, strong and kind.
Right to withdraw
At Waterhouses CE Primary Academy & Nursery, we aim to provide an inclusive and broad Religious Education (R.E.) curriculum which respects all backgrounds and provides an understanding of elements of different faiths across the world. However, we recognise the legal right of parents to withdraw their children from all, or part, of Religious Education and Collective Worship. If you wish to exercise this right, please speak to the Executive Principal/ Headteacher/ Executive School Leader/ School Leader to discuss your request. Alternative supervision will be provided if you wish to withdraw your child from this learning.
Parents also have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from some or all of sex education delivered as part of statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). Parents may not withdraw children from other elements of relationships and health education (everyone has relationships with others), nor can children be removed from topics taught within the Science curriculum which includes learning about puberty or sexual reproduction. Should a parent request for their child to be withdrawn from sex education, a member of the school team may wish to meet to understand the request and to clarify the nature and purpose of the curriculum and to highlight how it will remain likely that their child may hear their peers’ version of what was said, which may be inaccurate. School may document this process. Relationships education will focus on how to form and sustain positive relationships but will also help children identify risks and harms. Relationships education may therefore include topics related to preventing sexual abuse, for example, or avoiding sharing inappropriate material online. Alternative supervision will be provided if you wish to withdraw your child from this learning.
