World Book Day 2020

Wow! What a fantastic time we had celebrating World Book Day in school today! This morning’s assembly was extra special: we had a costume parade, revealed the winners of our half-term book mark competition and spent time sharing our favourite stories. Children from nursery to year 6 enjoyed reading each other’s favourite books and our White Tigers (Year 5/6) were fantastic role models, reading the stories aloud to their small groups. Back in class, we enjoyed a range of activities that the teachers had planned including book quizzes, treasure hunts and painting. Together, we created a collaborative story and the teachers all shuffled round to read stories to each other’s classes. Mrs Lafford loved reading ‘The Gigantic Turnip’ to EYFS and Mr Martin, a governor and volunteer reading enjoyed sharing ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ with our year 3 pupils in the library. A massive thank you to you, parents, who have helped the children to produce, or have provided, such wonderful costumes this year. We had an incredibly tough time choosing winners for our competition – so much so that we had to make it a prize draw! We hope that the day inspires and enthuses the children to keep reading and sharing books and stories! We LOVE reading at Waterhouses!
